Welcome to P7. Mrs Smyth will be teaching on a Monday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Taggart will teach on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Literacy we will be practising our dictionary skills and learning all about nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, past and present tense and plurals. We will be learning how to write a persuasive letter linked to our World Around Us topic.
In Numeracy will be revising basic addition, subtraction, multiplying and dividing. 2D shape, length, function machines, handling data and money are some of the other areas we will be covering in maths this term.
Our topic this term is ‘What’s the Impact?’ Children will be learning about rainforests, desert regions and polar regions. We also look at fair trade through this topic.
Our first school trip will be to Radar in Belfast on Wednesday 11th October. Radar is interactive, fun, and informative. Children will be introduced to a number of safety and life skill learning and get the chance to explore dangerous situations in a risk free environment. A letter will be sent out informing parents of what children need to bring.
Homework will be set each night. Every night children will be expected to complete written homework, read, learn and complete spelling activities and learn tables. Children will receive Maths homework on Monday and Wednesday nights and Literacy on Tuesday and Thursday nights. During the term we may ask children to bring in resources (cardboard boxes, balloons, etc.) and these will be noted in Homework Diaries. Parents are expected to sign the diaries on a Thursday night.
Children who are sitting the AQE transfer test will have extra worksheets/test corrections to complete alongside their set homework.
Children in Primary 7 have the opportunity to earn personal points and table points. When children receive 20 personal points they get a ‘No Homework’ voucher. The table with the most points will get a reward from the treat box. Every Friday we present ‘Pupil of the Week’ to a child who has worked well during the week, showed great manners, helped others and has given 100% to everything that they have done.
After school clubs are due to start week beginning 18th September. More details will follow.
P7 children will be doing PE on Thursday from 2pm – 3pm with Miss Simpson. They will need a complete change of clothes and footwear for P.E.
We are delighted to be offering this residential trip this year. This is a fanstastic opportunity and we hope as many of our P6 and P7 pupils will be able to attend. Please contact me if you have any questions/queries regarding the trip.
The Library van will visit school every 2 weeks beginning Wednesday 13th September. Please fill in the application form for a library card or send your child’s library card in to allow them to choose 2 books to bring home.
As always, please feel free to contact us at school if you have any worries or concerns.
