September / October
We have lots of fun numeracy activities planned for this half term! P2 will be consolidating their number facts and learning about new numbers. P3 will be looking at place value. P2/3 will have the opportunity to learn about 2D and 3D shapes and money.
Our P.E day is Friday. Reuben from the IFA will come in each Friday to help develop our football skills. Please ensure your child has a pair of plimsoles which can remain in school on their peg!
Our topic for this term is ‘On Safari’. We will be learning about the different cultures, food, animals, clothing, climate and currency within Africa. If you have any resources that may be useful for our topic we would be most grateful if you could send them in.
In P.2 children will have reading each night and Jolly Phonics which will be set on a Monday and should be completed by Friday. P.2 tables will commence after half term.
In P.3 children will have spellings, reading and tables Mon-Wed. Tables and spellings should be revised on a Thursday night. Written homework will consist of English on a Mon/Wed and Maths on a Tues/Thurs.
Children should spend no longer than 20 minutes on their homework. If homework consistently takes longer than this, please let us know.
No reading books will be sent home for the first couple of weeks as we are assessing each pupil’s reading in class after the Summer holidays.
Your child will have a library book home during this time. Please read with him/her.
P2/3 will have guided reading sessions each week. A new book is introduced and reading related activities are completed in class. Your child will bring home ‘dipping-in’ books also. We expect you to hear your child reading and talk about their book with them.
Please sign the reading diary (P.2) or homework diary (P3) when completed.
P.2 parents please ensure all fleeces and wellies (named) are sent to school a.s.a.p for outdoor play.
