Welcome to P1. The adults in our classroom are called:
Miss Simpson, Zaneese & Zara.
September / October
Our topic this term is ‘All About Me’. This topic allows children to learn about each other, their bodies and their families.
In Literacy we will be introducing and using new sounds (initial phonics); practising letter formation; talking and explaining to each other.
In Numeracy P1 will start looking at numbers 0 – 5, 2D shapes, patterns, number rhymes and sorting.
Generally – we will be practising correct pencil grip, following instructions, working independently and in groups, sharing, scissor use and putting on and taking off their jumpers and coats.
P.E – will be on a Wednesday morning every week. Please bring in P.E gutties only for the beginning of next week
Painting – every child must have their own painting apron for art lessons.
Outdoor Learning – all children must bring in wellies to be able to participate in outdoor play.
The children have all got stars on our reward chart. They are ‘Reaching for the Moon’. They will move up to the moon for a variety of reasons eg good behaviour, excellent work, being kind to others, helping to tidy up, listening etc.
Folders are given out on Monday and returned on Friday. Weekly homework consists of: 1 library book, Literacy and Numeracy Homework and recapping their sounds. Please support your child with their learning as much as possible at home, as this really makes a difference! This can be easy e.g. counting the dishes, road signs, getting them to hold the book while you read etc.
As always, please feel free to contact me at school if you have any worries or concerns.
Miss Simpson 🙂
Our topic this term is ‘People Who Help Us’. This topic allows children to learn about different people in the community who help us.
In Literacy we will be continuing to learn our sounds, rhyming words and beginning to blend small cvc words (e.g. c a t – cat).
In Numeracy P1 will continue looking at the number system, patterns and beginning to sort items with different criteria.
Generally – we will continue to focus on sharing, asking good questions, finding out about our different emotions and what to do when you feel them.
Homework folders will continue to be given out on Monday and returned on Friday.
The next set of sounds we will be learning is:
Week 1 – c k, e
Week 2 – h, r
Week 3 – m, d
Week 4 – g, o
Week 5 – u, l
Week 6 – f, b
Week 7 – recap
Literacy and Numeracy homework and a Reading Book will continue to be given out weekly. Please continue to support your child with their homework, this includes recapping all of their sounds with their actions and writing them down to practice formation.
World Around Us
If you know anyone who would like to come into school to talk to the Rec/P1 class for 15mins, could you leave their name and number with Dawn or send in a note with their contact details. These could be people such as; Nurse, Doctor, Bin man, postman, dentist, policeman etc.
Children are welcome to bring and leave any toys associated with ‘People Who Help Us’ in school for the rest of the term. E.g. animal hospital, toy police cars, fire engines, doctors briefcase etc.
Show and Tell
Children are now invited to bring in Show and Tell on a Friday but it must begin with one of our new sounds for the week. E.g. Week 1 – c,k or e, bring in elephant, clock or keyring etc.
Thank you for your continued support!!
Miss Simpson 🙂
