We can officially announce today that Dunseverick Primary School has a new Principal! Ms Gillian Martin (previously from Antrim Primary School) has accepted the post and will be joining us on Monday 22nd August 2016 ready for the new school year.
Dunseverick Primary School Board of Governors
It is with great pleasure that I write to introduce myself as the new Principal of Dunseverick Primary School. I am very much looking forward to working in Dunseverick and have already been made to feel very welcome. I was fortunate to meet the talented pupils of Dunseverick in December when I was treated to a preview of their Christmas plays. I trust you enjoyed the performances as much as I did, but feel it only fair to warn you my shoes are nowhere near as fancy as the Miss Roe who appeared in Tinsel and Tea-Towels!
I was previously a teacher in Ballywalter Primary, a rural school that is similar to Dunseverick. I applied for this post because of the strong community atmosphere and friendly, family feel of the school. I am passionate about teaching and learning and believe that education works best when schools work closely with families and the local community. I cannot imagine working in a school where I don’t know each child by name and I am looking forward to getting to know each pupil as the term progresses.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Edgar, Mrs McIlmoyle and Mrs Boyd for sharing the Principal’s duties during November and December, I appreciate their willingness to take on these additional responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the school. I would also like to thank all of the staff for the warm welcome they have given me already; I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with such an enthusiastic staff team.
It is my hope that everyone who enters Dunseverick Primary School, pupils, staff and parents, will feel excited to be here! This attitude will enable us to meet the daily challenges we face in a fun and nurturing environment, where every child reaches their full potential. I hope to get the opportunity to meet you all soon but in the meantime please feel free to call or email to discuss any concerns or suggestions you may have to make our school an even better place to be.
It only remains for me to wish you all a very happy and peaceful New Year.
